NSI
2009 has undoubtedly been a challenging year for the security and fire industries as recession has taken its toll. However, The NSI report that these challenges have helped the organisation to develop and grow stronger throughout the year. Although a number of approved companies failed during the year, the NSI reports that they have been more than offset by new companies seeking approval with them. Growth of the ACS and the number of companies audited by NSI remained positive.
BSIA
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA), has appointed James Kelly as the new Chief Executive of the BSIA. James brings a wealth of experience in lobbying, legal advice and commercial service delivery. With a very successful track record in professional representation he has performed leadership roles on behalf of the legal profession, engineering and marketing services industries.
SIA
The Security Industry Authority recently published its Annual Report and Accounts for the period 2008 – 2009.
The SIA describes the period as one of "solid achievement and consolidation." And reports finally being able to meet its targets for service delivery following the introduction of the new licence processing system, and also refers to co-operation with the UK Border Agency "working well" in terms of combating illegal working.
Six overarching objectives for the SIA were set by the Board for 2008-2009, all of them with measurable performance indicators. The first of these was to reduce criminality across the industry, supported by the Regulator's ability to be able to refuse licence applications and revoke those for individuals not deemed to be 'fit and proper persons'. Revised criminality criteria were built into the criminal record checks on 6 October 2008, thus maintaining the Regulator's ongoing commitments to protection of the public. This has proven to be a successful initiative.
